Social Media Corner:
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced changes to Facebook that will affect how we use Facebook Pages. In an effort to enhance “meaningful social conversations,” the new Facebook algorithms will put less priority on posts from pages and higher priority on individual posts. You can find out more in this article: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jan/11/facebook-news-feed-algorithm-overhaul-mark-zuckerberg
This means that it will be harder for your Facebook page to be seen in someone’s feed, unless you keep your Facebook page engaging. Social engagement should be your priority as a church in using a Facebook page, not simply advertising your worship services.
Ways to engage:
Create posts that invite conversation. Perhaps posting the scripture passage the pastor will preach on, inviting people to share their reflections or questions.
Use Facebook events to share special events at your church.
Post pictures, share videos, and use Facebook Live to stream your worship services.
Share content from Evergreen, ABCUSA, and other pages.
As always, remind your congregation to like, check-in, and share posts from your page. You can do this as a note in your bulletin, or a social media button on your church’s website. Better yet, make an announcement in church and ask everyone who has their phone on to go to Facebook and check in at the church. This will show up in their feed, and their friends will see it.
I’m happy to consult with your church’s Facebook page administrator if you’d like more ideas or suggestions.
